Audrey Tautou

Audrey Tautou, the oldest of her four siblings, was born on August 8, 1976 in Beaumont Puy-de Domme. The actress was inspired by her parents, a dentist and teacher who both taught her to pursue her passion for the theatre. This contrasted to an earlier desire to pursue a career as a primateologist since she loved monkeys. Early success and a rapid increase in recognition made her a promising young actor. After her graduation in 1998, she took part in the French talent-scouting TV programme Jeunes Premiers sponsored by Canal+ and won Best Young Actress at the Beziers Festival of Young Actors before beginning her acting career in earnest. Though she was a student at The Institut Catholique de Paris and attended church in her youth Tautou is now averse to her religious upbringing and has stated she's not Catholic. She pursued a modelling career alongside her acting career and is the model for L'Oreal Mont Blanc and Chanel often referred to as The Chanel Muse. Alongside her acting work she also has an interest in photography. She recently exhibited some photos at the Arles Film Festival, under the title Superficial. Her photography largely focuses on fame and celebrity and turns the camera on the journalists who scrutinised her after her meteoric rise in fame and fortune as Amelie and self-portraits. Audrey Tautou rose to fame and stardom with her major performance in Le Fabuleux d'Amelie Poulain. Amelie made international waves at the box office and won awards around the globe. It is the top-grossing French film made in America. In the wake of this achievement, Tautou was featured in a wide range of films from British dramatics like Stephen Knight's Dirty Pretty Things to Jean-Pierre Jeunet's film Un long Sunday of fiancailles. She then moved to Hollywood with Ron Howard's direction of The Da Vinci Code, a Dan Brown bestseller The Da Vinci Code with Tom Hanks.
